Aminath Namza has been appointed Chairperson of Public Service Media (PSM) and a member of its Board of Directors, while Ibrahim Nasreen has been appointed Managing Director, the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) announced on Monday.
Namza previously held the position of Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Local Government. Earlier in the current administration, she served as Deputy Minister of Gender before being transferred to the Local Government Ministry due to internal issues at the Gender Ministry.
Namza began her career as a presenter for TVM in 2001, hosting the English-language programme Tourism Unlimited. Over the years, she has presented various programmes in both English and Dhivehi.
In 2013, Namza was suspended from presenting programmes under the Maldives Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), the predecessor of PSM, after hosting a campaign rally for Ahmed Adeeb, the then-vice president of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
Earlier this year, both Namza and PSM faced public backlash over the content of a programme aired during Ramadan, prompting the broadcaster to issue an apology and announce that the content would be reviewed by its content committee before being re-aired.
Nasreen, appointed managing director, joined the state media 14 years ago. During this period, he held key roles, including Chief Commercial Officer and Director of E-Commerce. Prior to his appointment as managing director, Nasreen was PSM’s Sales and Marketing Director.
Nasreen was selected to lead the company following the resignation of Mohamed Saeed on Tuesday, who stepped down four months after his appointment, citing health reasons.
