The Parliament has approved the appointment of Fuwad Thowfeek as the Maldives’ ambassador to Thailand and Mariyam Insha Faisal as a member of the National Integrity Commission (NIC).
Fuwad, who had previously served as the chairman of the Elections Commission, played a key role in overseeing major democratic elections in the country, including the first multi-party presidential election in 2008. He completed two terms as a member and chairman of the commission, stepping down in line with the legal term limit on 23 November. Nominated by President Mohamed Muizzu and sent for parliamentary confirmation on 25 November, his nomination was confirmed by Parliament on Monday with 58 votes in favour.
Insha, who holds a law degree, previously worked as an investigator at the NIC. She was nominated by the president on 24 November, and her appointment to the NIC was approved unanimously by the 58 members present at Monday’s sitting.
