Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau announced on Saturday that foreign technical assistance would be sought to investigate the fire that destroyed three government ministries in Malé on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference, CP Shujau confirmed that while no injuries were reported, many important documents were destroyed in the blaze. He said the police had taken control of the affected area and were conducting a comprehensive investigation.

“We will seek the assistance of an overseas team in this investigation. We are working with the relevant government institutions to ensure that the team can work with our investigation team as soon as possible,” Shujau said.

He highlighted that the investigation aims to address public concerns and provide insights to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Police forensic teams are currently operating in the area, and CCTV footage is being analysed to determine the cause of the fire. Statements are also being collected from first witnesses and others present at the time of the incident.

CP Shujau urged anyone with relevant information to share it with the police to support the investigation.

The fire destroyed the building housing the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Housing, and the Green Building, which housed the Ministry of Environment.
