President Dr Mohamed Muizzu arrived in New York on Saturday to participate in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), marking his first visit to the UN and the United States since assuming office in November.
President Muizzu was greeted upon arrival by Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed, the Maldives’ Permanent Representative to the UN.
During his visit, President Muizzu is scheduled to address various meetings and events at the General Assembly. He is also set to make history as the first Maldivian President to speak at a UN Security Council debate, a government spokesperson confirmed earlier.
In addition to his engagements at the UN, President Muizzu will attend the “Summit of the Future” and deliver a speech at Princeton University in New Jersey.
The high-level government delegation accompanying the President includes key officials from his administration.
The 79th session of the UNGA is scheduled to run through this week, with participation from 193 member states.
