Regional Airports Company Ltd. (RACL) has issued a statement addressing media reports concerning an altercation between two staff members allegedly employed at Hanimaadhoo International Airport, which RACL operates.

Media reports say that the physical confrontation between two employees of Hanimaadhoo Airport involved the use of weapons. In the statement, RACL said the media reports do not present the complete picture of the incident. The two people involved in the altercations are not part of the company’s staff, nor are they involved in flight operations at the airport, RACL clarified.

Assuring their commitment to safety, RACL assured both staff and passengers that the incident posed no threat to the security of Hanimaadhoo Airport. The altercation allegedly occurred between two foreign workers, leading to one individual being taken into custody by the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

The suspect, identified as a 37-year-old Indian national, was involved in an altercation with a 39-year-old Indian national who sustained injuries in the incident, according to police. The incident is under investigation, police said.
