Three Maldivian women suffered serious injuries, and have been hospitalised, after a near fatal accident in Cochin, India, on Saturday morning. They are currently receiving treatment at Cochin, confirmed the husband of one of the women.
The injured women, all residents of Alifushi Island in Raa (R) Atoll, are a 25-year-old daughter, her 50-year-old mother, and 54-year-old aunt.
All three were determined to be in critical condition when they were rushed to the hospital. With surgery on the mother and daughter now ongoing, a determination on the third injured woman has yet to be made.
The husband of one of the injured told local media that the accident happened on their way back to Trivandrum, about 40 km from Kims Hospital, after seeing a doctor at another hospital near Cochin.
The accident occurred at 11:30 p.m. when the driver stopped on one side of the highway and collided with a car coming from the other direction.
All three women sustained various injuries. The 25-year-old suffered two lacerations to her face, her mother’s leg was broken and face injured, a source speaking for the family confirmed. According to the family, the aunt had suffered a laceration to the face and lost consciousness at the time of the accident.
