Abdulla bin Mohamed Ibrahim, president of Jamiyyath Salaf and brother-in-law of President Mohamed Muizzu, has deleted a social media post in which he labelled Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “terrorist who kills Muslims.”

The deletion came after the association’s executive committee reportedly intervened, citing internal rules. Speaking to local newspaper Adhadhu, Salaf spokesman Mohamed Thasleem said the post was removed because it did not follow the association’s approved procedures for public communication.

“The president of the association tweeted without the committee’s knowledge. In such a sensitive matter, the committee asked the president to delete it because it did not go through the required approval process,” Thasleem said.

He added that new internal rules had recently been introduced to strengthen Salaf’s organisational governance. “It was deleted in line with the rules that had been set to improve internal management,” he said.

In the now-deleted post, Abdulla, who is the brother of First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, expressed disapproval of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Malé as the guest of honour at the Maldives’ Independence Day celebrations, scheduled for Saturday.

“Modi is a great enemy of Islam, a terrorist who demolished the Babri mosque, built a temple there, looted old Muslim lands, burnt many Muslims and turned Ahmedabad into a cemetery. It is a great tragedy to honour him with anything in this country,” Abdulla wrote.

Modi is expected to arrive in Malé on Friday and will spend two days in the country. He will be the first head of state to visit the Maldives under the current administration.

Jamiyyath Salaf is widely believed to have close ties to the government of President Muizzu, who rose to power on the back of the “India Out” movement. The group is also alleged to maintain close personal connections with both President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha and her family.
