Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence startup, xAI, is set to release its inaugural AI model to a select group of individuals on Saturday, marking a significant step in the evolution of generative AI technology. Musk, also the CEO of Tesla and co-founder of OpenAI, revealed that this new model, in certain crucial aspects, stands as the best currently available in the field.
The emergence of xAI’s AI model follows the global fascination generated by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which captured the attention of businesses and users worldwide, leading to a notable surge in the adoption of generative AI technology. Musk, a prominent figure in the tech industry, has long been critical of Big Tech’s AI endeavours and censorship efforts. Earlier this year, he announced his intentions to create a maximum truth-seeking AI, aiming to comprehend the fundamental nature of the universe. This endeavour is aimed at rivalling the AI technologies developed by tech giants like Google’s Bard and Microsoft’s Bing AI.
Musk’s xAI, founded in July of this year, comprises a team with backgrounds in leading AI research organizations such as Google’s DeepMind and Microsoft, among others. Although distinct entities, Musk-owned X, previously known as Twitter, and xAI maintain close collaborations. Additionally, xAI has established partnerships with Tesla and various other companies.
Notably, Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle and a close associate of Musk, revealed in September that xAI had entered into a contract to train its AI model on Oracle’s cloud platform. As xAI prepares to unveil its groundbreaking AI model, the tech community eagerly anticipates the potential innovations and advancements it might usher into the AI landscape.
