The Department of National Registration (DNR) will remain open through the public holidays on Wednesday and Thursday, 27 and 28 September, the agency has said. Renewed Identification (ID) cards will be issued to those over the age of 18 to facilitate voting in the the second round of presidential elections to be held on Saturday, 30 September, DNR announced.

The department will issue ID cards from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Wednesday is a government holiday, to commemorate Prophet Muhammad’s birthday while Thursday serves as an extended holiday of the occasion.

Malé Mayor Mohamed Muizzu, the Progressive Party of the Maldives endorsed People’s National Congress (PPM/PNC) candidate, and incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate, having garnered the most votes in the first round with 46 percent and 39 percent respectively, will compete for the nation’s top job in the second round run-off of the presidential elections on 30 September.
