The Maldives government has signed an agreement with Chinese company China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) to provide basic utilities in Ras Malé and Gulhifalhu. The agreement was signed on Thursday on the sidelines of President Mohamed Muizzu’s current visit to China.
The total value of the agreement was not immediately available, with the President’s Office stating that details would be announced later.
According to a key administration official, under the agreement, CMEC will have to raise the necessary capital to build roads and establish basic services for residents at Ras Malé and Gulhifalhu.
President Muizzu met with Chinese President Xi Jinping Wednesday and both countries signed 20 agreements covering various development projects in the Maldives.
