The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s Fire and Rescue Service was called into action on Saturday morning after a yacht anchored near the Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, caught on fire.

The guests and crew on board were evacuated and no injuries were reported in the incident.

While the cause of the fire remains unclear, heavy smoke coming from the vessel was initially reported at 7:37 a.m. The firefighters were able to contain the flames by 9:48 a.m., according to the MNDF Fire and Rescue Service, and the fire was fully extinguished by 10:14 a.m.

The vessel sustained severe damage to its superstructure in the fire.

Authorities are investigating the incident.
