A Bangladeshi national, Arif Kamadari, has been deported from the Maldives for allegedly leading a prostitution network, the Immigration Department announced on Wednesday.
Deputy Chief Immigration Officer Mohammed Shifan stated during a news conference that Kamadari was at the centre of a network that had trafficked 23 women into the Maldives for prostitution from 2019 until his recent deportation. Authorities have also arrested and deported several individuals connected to the case.
This action is part of a broader crackdown on illegal activities and immigration violations in the Maldives. From June 29 to Tuesday, a joint operation by the Immigration Department and police resulted in the arrest of 101 foreigners.
In the past seven months, the Immigration Department has deported a total of 2,013 illegal immigrants.
