A tragic accident on the Sinamale’ Bridge Highway claimed the life of a 43-year-old man on Saturday. The incident occurred at 12.04 a.m. local time when a motorcycle collided with a pickup truck, resulting fatal injuries to the man, police said.

Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after and swiftly transported the critically injured man to Tree Top Hospital in Hulhumale’. The victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at the medical facility, according to the police. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the deceased.

Accidents on the Sinamale’ Bridge Highway have become an all-too-common occurrence. This latest fatality adds to a grim list of similar incidents that have claimed lives in the past. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

In addition to the highway, the second phase of Hulhumale’ has also witnessed a surge in road accidents. Recently, a young man lost his life in an accident in the area. Several other accidents within the vicinity have also resulted in fatalities.

Authorities are urging all motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such unfortunate incidents.

The Sinamalé Bridge connects the islands of Malé, Hulhulé, and Hulhumalé (via Hulhulé’) in the Maldives. Spanning 1.39 km in length, this bridge accommodates two car lanes, separate lanes for motorcycles, and dedicated pedestrian pathways. The bridge was inaugurated on August 30, 2018, and was initially known as the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, as it received funding from the Chinese government. Notably, it serves as the first inter-island bridge in the Maldives.
