The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has asked government agencies to seek permission before recruiting employees to civil service positions. The CSC mandated the change, reflective of the current transition phase of government, via a communiqué to government institutions.

Written permission is required when employing those other than doctors, nurses, teachers and imams – these exemptions are made for personnel hired for what is deemed essential services.

Creation of new posts, promotions and recruitment for vacancies are to be suspended as the transition process is underway, the commission said, while also pausing contract, wage and consultant recruitment for the same period.

President-elect Mohamed Muizzu had earlier requested the government implement a freeze during the transition period.
