Deputy Minister of Islamic Affairs Ali Ahsan’s room was allegedly bugged, local media outlet Adhadhu reported on Monday. The incident has sparked rumours on social media, initially suggesting that the room of Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed was the target.
However, it was confirmed by Adhadhu that Ahsan’s room was indeed the one compromised. Reports suggest that unknown individuals may have broken into the room with the intent to spy on Ahsan. The incident was corroborated by two separate sources who spoke to the media outlet.
As of now, the identity of those responsible remains unclear, and the Maldives Police Service has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
Ahsan is known to be a close associate of Minister Shaheem, frequently attending meetings alongside him and being a part of the minister’s delegation on various trips.
