Moomina Hussainfulhu, the mother of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, has passed away at the age of 80. She succumbed to a prolonged illness while receiving treatment at ADK Hospital in Malé on Thursday morning.

Mrs Hussainfulhu is survived by 11 children, including former Hulhumalé MP Ali Niyaz, Majeedhiyya School Principal Aminath Solih, and Fathimath Mohamed Solih, former Secretary to presidents Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. Three of her sons are Hafizes, having memorised the Holy Quran.

In a post on X, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), of which President Solih is a founding member and advisor, said: “On behalf of all members of our party, we extend our deepest condolences to President Solih and his family on the passing of his mother. We pray to Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest in Paradise and to give patience to the family. Amen.”

President Mohamed Muizzu also conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family in a post to X.
