State-owned utility company FENAKA Corporation has initiated transferring its ongoing water supply and sewerage network projects to the Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure has announced.
During a technical meeting on Thursday, discussions were held regarding the handing over of FENAKA’s projects to MWSC, according to the ministry. Muaz Mohamed Rasheed, the Managing Director of FENAKA, told the local media that the ministry’s decision to transfer the company’s water supply and sewerage network development projects to MWSC was made to expedite the projects.
Rasheed acknowledged that considerable time has elapsed since the awarding of the projects to FENAKA. He further observed that expediting the projects would entail substantial expenditures, a financial commitment that FENAKA, in its current fiscal state, cannot shoulder.
FENAKA was commissioned to establish water supply and sewerage networks on 16 islands during 2020 and 2021. While some projects had been mobilised and subsequently stalled, others have yet to commence.
