Maldives Immigration is looking for a Bangladeshi national after a video, which has been widely circulated on social media, showed him killing cats and preparing their meat.
Arfat Hossain, 32, is wanted after Immigration received a report from Immigration Watch, leading to an investigation into his activities. According to an immigration spokesman, Hossain is an illegal immigrant and is suspected of killing cats in the city and using their meat to prepare food.
Authorities have ordered Hossain to present himself to the immigration office within five days. However, when immigration officers visited his residence on Monday, they were unable to locate him.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare has reported the matter to the police, who have now launched an investigation. A video of the suspect being questioned by a local resident has been widely shared on social media, adding to the growing concern over the incident.
