In a gesture of bilateral camaraderie, the French naval ship Surcouf is set to arrive in the Maldives for a special port call on Thursday. The visit, which coincides with the French national day known as Bastille Day, is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations and foster cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Commissioned in 1997, Surcouf is a specific frigate model known as the La Fayette class, which is designed to serve multiple combat purposes. The ship, measuring 125 metres in length and 15.4 meters in width, is also equipped with a Panther anti-ship helicopter.
