Ibrahim Shiuree, a former national table tennis champion with a history of competing at national and international tournaments, has been appointed as the managing director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). Shiuree is currently the Vice President of the Table Tennis Association of Maldives (TTAM).

The MMPRC is entrusted with promoting the Maldives as a premier tourist destination worldwide under the brand “Maldives” and the slogan “Maldives… The Sunny Side of Life.”

The managing director role at MMPRC became vacant after Fathmath Thaufeeq was removed from the position. This followed the resignations of MMPRC’s chairperson Ayesha Nurain Janah and board member Rafil Mohamed, the latter representing the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI). In the interim, Mohamed Bassam, the Deputy Managing Director, has been leading the corporation.

Shiuree’s background includes multiple achievements in table tennis, both as a player and a coach. During his career, he had won the national table tennis championship title five times and had represented the Maldives in various international tournaments. As a coach, his leadership contributed to the Maldives women’s table tennis team, which secured three gold medals at the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) in Mauritius.

In addition to his sports career, Shiuree has been involved in several significant projects and organisations. The 40-year-old served as a steering committee member of the World Bank’s Enhancing Employment and Resiliency of Youth project and held leadership roles in other projects. Shiuree is also an executive board member of the Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MNACI) and has served on the board of directors of the Maldives Hajj Corporation.

Shiuree holds a master’s degree in business administration, specialising in public relations and communications, from Limkokwing University, Malaysia.
