Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced temporary parking restrictions on Hulhule Island in preparation for the opening of the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) on 26 July 2025.
According to a statement from MACL, parking of four-wheeled vehicles will be prohibited in the east side parking zone from 17 July, with owners asked to remove their vehicles by that date. Parking on the west side zone will be banned from 6:00 p.m. on 17 July.
“Vehicle parking will not be allowed in the parking zones of Hulhule’ Island as follows,” the statement said. “Any vehicles found parked in violation of these restrictions will be towed with the assistance of the Maldives Police Service.”
MACL added that the date for resuming parking in these zones will be announced later.
The new terminal is part of ongoing efforts to modernise the airport, which serves as the country’s primary international gateway.
