The Maldives and Burundi have signed a visa waiver agreement, which allows visa exemption for single or multiple entry, exit, or transit of nationals of both countries for 30 days.

The agreement was signed by Thilmeeza Hussain, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations, on behalf of the Government of Maldives, and by Zéphyrin Maniratanga, Permanent Representative of Burundi to the United Nations, on behalf of the Government of Burundi. The ceremony took place at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Maldives to the United States in New York.

During the dialogues exchanged at the ceremony, Permanent Representative Thilmeeza expressed her appreciation to the Government of Burundi for its commitment to reinforcing the bilateral relations between the countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. She also conveyed hope that the agreement signing would increase avenues for people-to-people engagement between the Maldives and Burundi. The gestures were reciprocated by the Permanent Secretary of Burundi, who expressed keen interest in strengthening the existing ties with the Maldives, the statement said.
