The Maldives’ fish exports expanded by 3.5 percent in 2023 compared to the previous year, according to statistics released by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

The country exported 78,766 metric tonnes of fish last year, with exports in 2022 totalling 76,009 metric tonnes.

While exports in 2022 earned US$146.5 million (MVR 2.2 billion), exports last year were worth US$151.3 million (MVR 2.3 billion).

Last year, 54,732 metric tonnes of skipjack tuna were exported, along with 9,272 metric tonnes of yellowfin tuna.

In addition, 12,417 metric tonnes of canned and poached fish were also exported.
