India, the Maldives, Mauritius, and Sri Lanka, the Member States of the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC), on Friday signed the Charter and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for establishing the CSC Secretariat. The CSC seeks to promote regional security by addressing transnational threats and challenges of common concern to its Member States.
At a ceremony hosted by the Government of Sri Lanka in Colombo, Ajit Kumar Doval, National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of India; Ibrahim Latheef, National Security Advisor at the President’s Office of the Republic of Maldives; Haymandoyal Dillum, High Commissioner of the Republic of Mauritius to Sri Lanka; and Sagala Gajendra Ratnayaka, National Security Advisor to the President of Sri Lanka, signed the documents on behalf of their respective CSC Member States.
The CSC will look to address mutual regional security concerns through cooperation and coordination between Member States on;
- Maritime Safety and Security
- Countering Terrorism and Radicalisation
- Combating Trafficking and Transnational Organised Crime
- Cyber Security and Protection of Critical Infrastructure and Technology
- Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief
The event in Colombo concluded with a discussion among the heads of delegations on the next steps and the future activities of the Conclave.
