The Parliament Committee on Government Oversight on Saturday cancelled its meeting to review President Mohamed Muizzu’s Cabinet nominations due to a lack of quorum.
The committee was scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. Shortly after, the Parliamentary Secretariat notified the media that the meeting had been cancelled.
The committee Chair and Member of Parliament (MP) for West Maafannu, Mohamed Falah, confirmed that the meeting was cancelled due to a lack of quorum.
Three members signed the motion and decided to hold the session today. The members who signed were PNC’s Ibrahim Naseem, PPM’s [Ahmed] Thariq and Abdulla Riyaz, who is now an independent, [but] one of them did not attend committee [today].
Mohamed Falah, Chair of the Parliament Committee on Government Oversight and Member of Parliament for West Maafannu, explaining Saturday’s lack of quorum to move ahead on the Cabinet approval motion.
Falah said four members are required to conduct the committee meeting while a quorum of six members is required for a committee vote.
Only three members were present at the start of Saturday’s meeting.
Parliament had previously ruled that the report on the approval of ministers was not in order and sent it back to the committee on 18 December because the administration had not submitted the mandate of the ministries.
