The Parliamentary Secretariat has denied allegations that Speaker Mohamed Aslam met with a foreign ambassador on Thursday.

The denial came in the wake of President Mohamed Muizzu stating, at a rally held by the ruling Progressive Congress coalition last night, that photos of Speaker Aslam and two other Members of Parliament (MP)s leaving Amin Avenue in Hulhumalé yesterday after meeting a foreign ambassador have been circulating on social media.

“There are photos of people meeting somewhere in Amin Avenue in Hulhumalé for a very long time, from evening till night,” Muizzu said.

The President did not, however, say which ambassador the Speaker met with. However, it is widely believed he might be referring to the Indian Ambassador to the Maldives who resides in Amin Avenue.

“I hope that the meeting was, prioritising the nation and, about participating in the work we are doing about uplifting the state of the country from what it is today,” Muizzu said.
