The Maldives exported 33,994 metric tonnes of tuna from January to October this year, a decline in 46.1 percent over the same period last year, data by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) revealed.
The nation exported 63,071 metric tonnes of fish over the same period last year, translating to a decline in exports of 29,076 metric tonnes in 2024.
Skipjack tuna was the top fish export, with combined fresh and frozen exports, as of October, accounting for 19,614 metric tonnes.
According to MMA data, exports remained consistently lower throughout 2024 compared to the year before, save for August.
