The Maldivian government is seeking expressions of interest for the development of a 100 MW to 150 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in the Greater Malé region. The project will include battery storage to balance supply and demand within the grid.
The selected developer will undertake the project under a design, build, finance, own, operate and transfer (DBFOOT) model, according to the tender notice issued by the Ministry of Finance and Planning.
“The Government intends to implement a 100 MW to 150 MW solar project in the Greater Malé region,” the ministry said. “This project, which includes battery storage to balance Solar PV supply and demand within the grid, is expected to contribute to the national electricity feed.”
The Terms of Reference are now available on the ministry’s website, according to the notice. Interested parties can seek clarifications until 1 p.m. Maldivian time on 20 February, with expressions of interest due by 2 p.m. on 27 February.
The country relies heavily on imported fuel for power generation and has been expanding its renewable energy sector to cut costs and reduce emissions.
