The Maldives has once again demonstrated its global appeal by securing four prestigious awards in the Indian Ocean category at the World Travel Awards 2024.

The Maldives was recognised as the Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination, Leading Honeymoon Destination, Leading Green Destination, and Leading Dive Destination. These accolades were presented at a ceremony held at the Dubai World Trade Center as part of the ongoing Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2024.

The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, are considered the gold standard in the travel and tourism industry. They aim to recognise and reward excellence in all global travel and tourism sectors. The awards underscore the Maldives’ standing as an unparalleled tourist destination.

These awards underscore the Maldives’ commitment to delivering unforgettable experiences to visitors from around the world, the Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) said in a statement. They also reinforce the continued efforts of MMPRC in promoting and developing the nation’s tourism sector, it said.

Since introducing the Indian Ocean category in the World Travel Awards in 2003, the Maldives has achieved remarkable success. The nation has won the Leading Destination award 17 times, the Leading Honeymoon Destination award six times, and the Leading Dive Destination award a staggering nine times. Notably, 2024 marks the first year the Maldives has been recognised as a green destination, highlighting the nation’s commitment to sustainable tourism.

These awards enhance the image of the Maldives as a high-profile luxury destination among visitors and indicate their love and confidence in the Maldives. This recognition is a significant step towards becoming the world’s leading destination.
