The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources has announced that it will hold a number of activities to mark World Ocean Day on 8 June.
The ministry, posting to social media, said in a statement that the day will be celebrated across all islands in the Maldives.
The agency is working with councils and institutions to conduct activities in the islands under the slogan “Enmen Moodhah!” (Everyone to the Sea).
In addition, essay competitions open to all will be held in schools across the country and a daily awareness messages will be disseminated through the ministry’s social media between 1-8 June.
Other activities planned by the ministry include a social media quiz competition, an information session for students in the Malé area, and the signing of a resolution to stop polluting the sea.
In addition, a dive session will be held in the Malé area to showcase the underwater beauty to children — a children’s evening titled ‘Kanduroadhi Ufaa Festival’ will also be held.
