The national carrier Maldivian has recommenced its international operations following essential repairs on its Airbus A320 aircraft. The wide-body aircraft, crucial for international flights, encountered technical issues on 25 June during a scheduled journey from Malé to Thiruvananthapuram, India.
Following the incident, the aircraft returned to Velana International Airport (VIA) for assessment. Subsequently, the aircraft was flown to Malaysia for comprehensive repairs, which have now been completed, according to the company. Following maintenance, Maldivian was set to resume scheduled flights to Dhaka by Sunday evening.
During the repair period, Maldivian had to cancel several international flights, including those operating on the Malé-Dhaka route, while passengers set to return via Maldivian from Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore, and Kochi in India were left stranded. Passengers affected by these cancellations were provided food, accommodation, and assistance to return to Malé via alternative flights.
