The Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) has announced the appointment of Abdulla Ghiyas Riyaz as the new chairperson and board member of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
MMPRC, the country’s leading tourism promotion board, is entrusted with showcasing the Maldives as a world-class tourism destination under the brand “Visit Maldives” and the slogan “Maldives… The Sunny Side of Life.”
Riyaz brings a wealth of experience to his new role. As the president of the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), Riyaz has been at the forefront of promoting the Maldives tourism sector. MATATO’s activities span advocacy, lobbying, training, workshops, familiarisation trips, and recognition programmes, including prestigious awards ceremonies and travel conferences.
Riyaz’s appointment follows the recent resignation of Ayesha Nurain Janah from the chairperson’s position. Janah’s departure was swiftly followed by the dismissal of Fathimath Thaufeeq, who held the managing director’s role. Ibrahim Shiuree—a former national table tennis champion and current Vice President of the Table Tennis Association of Maldives (TTAM)—has taken the reins as the new managing director.
Under Shiuree’s leadership, the MMPRC has undergone significant restructuring. Deputy Managing Director Bassam Adam and Chief Corporate Officer Ibrahim Asim were dismissed as part of this organisational shake-up.
