Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer is set to embark on an official visit to Colombo, Sri Lanka, from 3 to 6 June, the foreign ministry has announced. His visit comes in response to an invitation from M.U.M. Ali Sabry, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, according to the ministry.

During the visit, Minister Zameer is scheduled to meet Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena. He will also engage in bilateral talks with his Sri Lankan counterpart, Sabre.

The primary focus of Minister Zameer’s meeting with the Sri Lankan foreign minister will be to explore avenues for further strengthening the bilateral relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, according to the Maldives’ foreign ministry. Discussions will centre on providing convenient facilities for Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka, the ministry said.

This marks Minister Zameer’s first official visit to Sri Lanka since assuming the position in the Mohamed Muizzu administration. President Muizzu, who assumed office in November 2023, has yet to visit Sri Lanka.
