More than 40 employees at Fuel Supply Maldives (FSM), a subsidiary of the state-owned State Trading Organization (STO), have been sacked for allegedly trading fuel stolen from the company and laundering its proceeds.
Ismail Shuhail, the Managing Director at FSM, resigned after being instructed to do so following allegations against him in the case, local media sources confirmed.
It has now also been confirmed that several employees across FSM have been sacked on charges of trading stolen fuel.
Action was taken after an internal investigation initiated by the parent company, STO.
While more than 40 employees have been fired, some were given the opportunity to resign, local media sources say.
The police have now launched an investigation into the matter, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihussan confirmed on Monday on social media.
“So far, police special teams have looked into 10 people, two houses, and two oil barges and recovered electronic equipment and documents related to the case. As the investigation progresses, the police will provide more details on the case,” Ihussan wrote in a post.
It was not immediately clear whether any arrests have been made.
