Interested developers now have the opportunity to apply to develop the Uligan Marina Project. It will move forward in six main phases, an announcement by the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) said on Thursday.

The project will include a yacht marina, cruise terminal, vessel docking facility, the Uligan port facility, a city hotel as well as a café and restaurant.

Interested parties will be required to develop a yacht marina and project requirements also specify that development has to be carried out in one or two additional phases depending on the developer’s approach.

Interested parties have been requested to contact MPL via email and are required to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by 12 August at 4 pm.

MPL said the project will create significant job opportunities and bring economic growth to the northern region.

The project aims to provide key services to foreign cargo ships as well as safaris and yachts travelling through the northernmost part of the Maldives, with the administration aiming to make it a premier destination for such vessels.

Land for the construction of the yacht marina has already been allocated at Uligan Island, in Haa Alifu (HA.) Atoll, to MPL.

The project is one of the more significant pledges by President Mohamed Muizzu in terms of the administration’s economic policies, aimed at reducing the country’s dependence solely on tourism.
