President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Thursday reappointed Ali Nashath as a member of the Elections Commission (EC).
The letter of appointment was officially presented to Ali Nashath during a ceremony at the President’s Office Thursday morning. This appointment was made in accordance with Articles 167(a) and 168(b) of the Maldivian Constitution, along with the provisions outlined in section 4(a) of the “Elections Commission Act” (No. 8/2008).
Before receiving the letter of appointment, Supreme Court Justice Dr. Azmiralda Zahir administered the oath of office to Nashath in the presence of President Solih.
The president nominated Nashath for another term as a member of the commission on 29 May this year.
However, the parliament went into recess in June without confirming the nomination, which subsequently remained in the committee stage for four months.
Nashat was first appointed to the EC on 25 July 2018 by then President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and his term expired on 25 July this year.
Parliament confirmed Nashat’s nomination for a second term on Wednesday.
