The Maldives’ off-season this year could see the least number of tourist arrivals since Covid, statistics from the Ministry of Tourism have revealed.

According to the Ministry’s figures, 40,153 tourists arrived this month ahead of the Eid holidays, down from both last year and the year before.

The statistics also highlighted that the number of tourists arriving daily has fallen to an unprecedented level this year, with arrivals in June likely to be much lower than in the last month — May saw the lowest number of tourist arrivals in six years.

Although the number of tourist arrivals is low, the total number of tourists so far this year is higher than in previous years. This increase follows a record number of tourist arrivals earlier in the year, with figures expected to reach one million faster than in any previous year.

According to the latest arrival figures, 932,398 tourists have visited the country so far, with the country expected to welcome its one millionth tourist next month.
