The police have launched an awareness programme specifically encouraging Chinese tourists to exercise caution when engaging in sea activities while holidaying in the Maldives.
The agency is conducting the operation in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and the Chinese Embassy in an attempt to reduce potentially life-threatening incidents among travellers, the police said.
“As part of the programme, Chinese tourists will be identified at Velana International Airport and given information on precautions to be taken while participating in various sea activities while spending their holidays in the Maldives,” police said.
A leaflet, with instructions and advice in Chinese, will also be distributed to tourists as part of the programme. The leaflet will contain information on what tourists should be aware of when participating in sea activities and during their stay in the Maldives.
