The Maldives Police Service has initiated an investigation into the disturbances that occurred during Wednesday’s second division quarter-final football match at Galolhu Stadium, involving supporters of Kuda Henveiru.

The incident, which saw no arrests as of yet, erupted following a controversial foul by a Victory Sports Club player against a Kuda Henveiru player, leading to Kuda Henveiru fans invading the pitch and attacking some Victory players. Kuda Henveiru supporters also assaulted Victory’s coach Sobah Mohamed during the skirmish.

The match, which Victory led 3-1 at the time, was subsequently abandoned due to the unrest.

Despite efforts to continue the game, officials were forced to call off the match.
