President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Civil Court Judge Farhad Rasheed as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Justice Farhad, who will represent the judges of the lower courts, was elected to the JSC by his peers on 10 August. His appointment ceremony was held at the President’s Office on Sunday, where he was sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Ali Rasheed Hussain. President Muizzu personally presented Justice Farhad with his letter of appointment.
The term of office for members of the JSC is five years. Justice Farhad’s election follows the end of former Justice Ali Shareef’s tenure, which concluded last month.
Farhad has been serving as a judge in the Civil Court since 2022. Last year, the JSC conducted an investigation into alleged misconduct involving Justice Farhad, but the commission found no evidence to substantiate the claims, and the case was dismissed.
