Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal has been removed from his post, the President’s Office confirmed on Tuesday. No reason was provided for the dismissal.

Speaking to local media, Faisal said he received an official letter from the President’s Office informing him of his dismissal earlier in the day. The tourism portfolio has been temporarily handed over to Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, pending the appointment of a new minister.

Faisal’s removal comes amid rumours of a rift between President Mohamed Muizzu and Faisal’s father, Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla. Abdul Raheem, who is currently in Malaysia, has yet to comment on the development.

While the reasons for Faisal’s dismissal remain unclear, speculation has mounted over alleged tensions between President Muizzu and Abdul Raheem. Some sources suggest the fallout stems from Abdul Raheem’s reported political ambitions, although details of the feud are unconfirmed.

Despite the speculation, President Muizzu has previously described Abdul Raheem as a political role model and one of his closest allies.
