After a temporary pause to accommodate the SAFF Championship 2023, the MWSC Dhivehi Premier League (DPL) is scheduled to resume on Friday.

The league was put on hold from 21 June to 4 July. The league’s resumption remained uncertain until Wednesday due to the continued absence of employees of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) caused by non-payment of salaries. However, the FAM has now made the decision to proceed with the fixtures starting Friday.

As the league resumes, two teams have made changes in their coaching staff. Ihsan Abdul Ganee (Saanthi), who was unable to continue as the coach of Club Eagles due to illness, has been replaced by Mohamed Shiyaz (Mohan). Mohan joined Eagles after a three-year hiatus.

Reigning champions Maziya Sports and Recreation Club have also changed their coach for the third consecutive year. After terminating the contract with Bulgarian coach Ivan Venkov Kolev, Maziya appointed Bosnian-born coach Milomir Šešlija (Milo) as his successor.

In terms of the current league standings, Maziya top the table with nine points, followed closely by Eagles in second place with seven points. Super United Sports (SUS) are in third place with six points.

Buru Sports Club and TC Sports Club occupy fourth and fifth positions with six and four points respectively. Club Green Streets are in sixth place with three points, while Valencia and United Victory occupy the seventh and bottom positions, both without any points.

The league is resuming after a 56-day break. Club Green Streets will face Buru Sports Club on Friday afternoon, followed by a match between Maziya Sports and Recreation and TC Sports Club in the evening.
