Maldivian athletes on Friday secured a total of eight medals, including four gold, three silver, and one bronze, in the ongoing 13th South Asian Bodybuilding Championship held in Male’.

The South Asian Bodybuilding Championship, which is being held from 5 to 9 July, features athletes representing six countries: India, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. 

Azneen Rashad, Abdulla Ahusan, Mohamed Yameen (Yaanbe), and Mohamed Moosa (Mode) earned gold medals in their respective categories.

Azneen won gold medal in the 170cm Sports Physique Category in this year’s competition, emulating his performance in the 2019 edition of the South Asian Bodybuilding Championships held in Nepal. Azneen claimed the Sports Physique Category of the Mr Maldives competition which was wrapped up last week.

Adding to the Maldives’ success, Yaanbe, the reigning Mr. Maldives, delivered a stellar performance, claiming the first-place in the hotly contested 85Kg Category. The celebration continued as Abdulla Ahusan and Mohamed Moosa earned gold medals in the athletic physique 175 cm and 55kg categories respectively.

The Maldives’ triumph was not limited to the gold medals alone. Maldives Athletes Fathuhulla Mohamed and Mohamed Imrah made their mark by securing silver medals in their respective categories. Additionally, two athletes from the Maldives earned a silver and a bronze medal in the junior category, further highlighting the Maldives bodybuilding team’s the depth of talent.

After the South Asian Bodybuilding Championship, Maldivian bodybuilders will compete in the highly anticipated Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship in Nepal in September. The ultimate test awaits in November when the World Bodybuilding Championships take place in South Korea, where athletes from around the globe will gather to compete at the highest level.
