The Maldivian shooting team is showing notable improvement at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, as Staff Sergeant Sharafiyya Abdul Rahman and Corporal Ibrahim Shifan break national records with their impressive performances.

On Tuesday, Sharafiyya shattered her own record, previously set at the Asian Rifle Pistol Cup in Indonesia earlier this year. She achieved a total score of 605.9 points in the 10m air rifle event, besting her previous record of 589.6 points set at the Asian Rifle Pistol Cup.

Shifan, on the other hand, who narrowly missed out on breaking the record of 604.9 points from this year’s Asian Rifle Pistol Cup, did manage to secure a new national record in the 10m air rifle mixed event, alongside Sharafiyya. Together, they achieved a total score of 600.9 points in the mixed  event.

Notably, the duo’s remarkable performance not only broke national records but also eclipsed the Asian Rifle Pistol Cup record by an astonishing 8.6 points.
