Velana International Airport (VIA) will host the Air Service World Congress for the first time in July 2024, the airport operator Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced.

VIA was selected as the host of next year’s event at the recently concluded Air Service World Congress 2023 in Oakland, San Francisco Bay Area. VIA was one of the sponsors and supporters of this year’s congress, which took place from 17 to 19 July.

The Air Service World Congress brings together representatives from airlines, airports, and aviation companies worldwide, including suppliers, consultants, airport and tourism authorities, as well as airport network planners. The event is organised by Global Travel Investment (GTI), a business intelligence, events, training and exhibition group.

Upon receiving this opportunity, VIA Managing Director and CEO Mahjoob Shujau invited his international peers to explore the Maldivian aviation industry and witness the significant upgrades at Velana International Airport.

“It is with immense pleasure that we announce Velana International Airport as the host for the 2024 Air Service World Congress. This pivotal event demonstrates our dedication to continual growth and development in the aviation industry. Over the years, we have made significant strides in transforming our infrastructure and expanding our operational capacity,” said Mahjoob Shujau, CEO, and Managing Director of MACL.

MACL believes that the highly anticipated event in July 2024 will attract international representatives from the route development community and provide a platform to discuss the future of global air service development. Being a hub of connectivity in the Indian Ocean, it will be a treasured opportunity for Velana International Airport to facilitate such meaningful industry conversations in the Maldives.

“Throughout the event, participants can look forward to insightful industry discussions, one-to-one meetings, and an array of networking opportunities,” MACL said. The company anticipates that these interactions will provide avenues for knowledge sharing, fostering collaboration, and exploring innovative solutions for air service development. The airport operator also added that the Maldives congress will not be just about industry discussions and networking, but an exceptional event where participants can experience the breathtaking natural beauty of the island nation.
