Air India will begin direct flights between the Maldives and two destinations in India—Mumbai and Bengaluru—starting 30 October, Villa Travels, the airline’s local agent, has revealed.
Currently, three carriers fly from the Maldives to India – Indian carriers IndiGo and Vistara, as well as Maldives’ national carrier Maldivian.
Vistara had announced direct flights between New Delhi and Maldives starting October. Meanwhile, Maldivian is set to begin direct flights between Maldives and Bangalore from 30 October.
India is currently the Maldives’ second-largest tourism draw. According to the Ministry of Tourism, as of 23 August, more than 131,000 Indian tourists have already visited the Maldives in 2023.
