President Mohamed Muizzu has concluded his visit to Estonia, the first official trip by a Maldivian President to the Baltic nation. The visit, made at the invitation of Estonian President Alar Karis, focused on strengthening bilateral relations and fostering collaboration in key sectors such as digital technology, climate resilience, and political dialogue.

During the visit, President Muizzu held talks with key Estonian leaders, including President Karis, the President of Parliament, government ministers, and senior representatives from academia and prominent institutions, a statement from the President’s Office said. These discussions, according to the statement, focused on aligning strategies and identifying opportunities for collaboration.

In a statement shared on his official social media account, President Muizzu expressed his optimism upon concluding the visit. “I depart Tallinn with optimism as my Official Visit to Estonia concludes. The progress we have achieved together during the visit is encouraging,” he said. “This visit marks a new era of bilateral cooperation, reaffirmed by the myriad of productive meetings and the MoUs signed on digitalisation, environment, and political consultation.”

The Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed during the visit include agreements between the two governments on knowledge exchange in climate change and energy, as well as agreements on political consultation and digital affairs.

In addition to formal meetings, President Muizzu visited key institutions in Estonia, including the e-Estonia Briefing Centre, University of Tartu, and the Estonian National Museum, where discussions revolved around potential collaborations in digital transformation and sustainable development.

The President’s Office said the visit had contributed significantly to advancing the Maldives’ digital transformation and building climate resilience, while reinforcing the commitment of both countries to collaborate on multilateral platforms.
