Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam has announced President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s decision to grant land plots to all eligible applicants of the “Binveriya” scheme. Minister Aslam made the announcement during a press conference held at the President’s office on Monday, where he also disclosed the list of land recipients under the scheme.

“The list, which will contain the names of applicants and the number of applications submitted, will be gazetted today. Additionally, the President has announced the allocation of 5,000 plots,” Minister Aslam revealed.

A total of 35,800 people had applied for the government’s “Binveriya” and “Gedhoruveriya” schemes, both aimed at providing housing solutions for the people of Male’ city. Out of these applicants, 12,794 have been deemed eligible for land allocation. 20,600 applications for flats and 15,164 applications for land plots were received under the schemes. However, the list of beneficiaries for flats is yet to be announced.

Minister Aslam emphasised that the President has made the decision to grant land to all individuals who qualify under the ‘Binveriya’ scheme. Although the initial announcement will include 5,000 land recipients, every eligible individual will eventually be listed to receive land plots in the future.

“To ensure that everyone who qualifies is accounted for, a special cabinet meeting was convened to discuss the allocation of land. The government remains committed to maintaining a live list and providing ongoing support to the land recipients,” Minister Aslam affirmed.

The “Binveriya” scheme is part of President Solih’s comprehensive efforts to address the pressing issue of housing shortage in Male’ city.
