A 30-year-old Chinese tourist has drowned off the coast of Maafushi Island, Kaafu Atoll, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed. The incident happened off the channel near Active Watersports in Maafushi and was reported to the police at approximately 10:20 a.m. on Thursday.

The victim, whose identity has yet to be revealed, was promptly transported to the Maafushi healthcare centre. Despite the medical intervention, she died while undergoing treatment, according to a police spokesperson. The MPS has initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to this unfortunate incident.

This incident occurred just two days after the death of a 68-year-old Swiss woman in a diving incident near Muli Island, Meemu Atoll. The specifics of the incident still remain unclear.
