The Elections Commission (EC) has revised the redistricting of constituencies for the 2024 Parliamentary Elections upon reviewing the public complaints for the interim report on the district populations of the parliamentary constituencies released by the commission in September. EC Vice-President Ismail Habeeb announced the changes on Thursday night.

In Malé, those on the Malé registry, except for those registered to Vilimalé constituency, would be redistricted to Central and North Hulhumalé constituencies, bringing parity to the constituents in Maafannu and Machchangolhi constituencies.

In Laamu Atoll, Mundoo Island will be redistricted from Gan constituency to Isdhoo constituency.

In Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Villingili Island alone will form the Villingili constituency; Dhaandhoo constituency will consist of the islands of Dhaandhoo, Nilandhoo and Konday; Gemanafushi constituency will consist of the islands of Gemanafushi, Kanduhulhudhoo and Dhevvadhoo; and Kolamaafushi constituency will consist of the islands of Kolamaafushi and Maamendhoo.

The final report on redistricting will be released later this month, Habeeb told local media. Once the report is released, the public will have to file a court complaint should they seek changes, he said.
